Sermon questions for Small Groups

Below are discussion questions for each sermon.  These questions are meant to be more discussion and application oriented for small groups.  Please attend Sunday School for more in-depth Bible teaching.  Feel free to pick and choose the questions that will work best for your group.

  • Sunday, May 5, 2024 / acts 5:1-11

    • Warm Up:  Did you ever get away with doing something wrong as a kid - cheating, stealing, lying, etc.?
    • Discuss:  Verse 3 says that Ananias lied to the Holy Spirit.  Compare this with Psalm 51:4.  Why is every sin against God?
    • Discuss:  Is the judgment of God on Ananias and Sapphire justified?  Why do you think that God judges so swiftly?
    • Discuss:  In verse 9 is says that  Saphira tested the Holy Spirit.  What does it mean to test the Holy Spirit?  Do people still do that today?
    • Apply:  One commentator says that this passage demonstrates the ongoing need for church discipline in congregations today.  How should your church enacted discipline in healthy ways?
  • Sunday, Apr 28, 2024 / Acts 2:14-41

    • Warm up:  Why is it hard to tell others about Jesus?
    • Discuss:  Verse 17 says that the Holy Spirit has come for "all" people.  Do Christians tend to believe that some Christians have the Holy Spirit and some don't?
    • Discuss:  Verses 19 and 20 remind us of the coming judgment of the Lord.  Do Christians take God's coming judgment of their friends and coworkers and neighbors seriously enough?
    • Discuss:  How does the Holy Spirit empower us to witness to others about the Gospel of Jesus?
    • Apply:  What excuse is keeping you from sharing the Gospel with others?
  • Sunday, Apr 21, 2024 / Acts 2:1-13

    • Warm up:  Have you ever seen revival break out?  What was it like?
    • Discuss:  Biblically and practically speaking, why are wind and fire appropriate representations of the Holy Spirit?
    • Discuss:  What is the significance of each nationality being able to hear the wonders of God in their own tongue?
    • Discuss:Why does the passage take the time to list the nations?  What is their significance?
    • Apply:  What needs to happen in your life for God to send revival?
  • Sunday, Apr 14, 2024 / Acts 1:1-11

    • When someone mentions the Holy Spirit, what image springs into your mind?  A ghost, wind, fire, a force, energy, a feeling, a presence, etc.
    • How is the work of the Holy Spirit related to the Kingdom of God?
    • What does it mean for Christians to be a witness?  See verse 8.
    • What type of power does the Holy Spirit provide?
    • What advice would you give someone who wants to live in the power of the Holy Spirit?
